Fall 2015 Classes with Professional Training for First Grade to Adult Students

It’s time to reserve a spot for yourself or your child in an Aurora Theatre Academy class. Aurora Theatre Academy intensives are for all ages! We have our traditional programs for grades 112, as well as an Adult Acting Class! Aurora Theatre, being the only professional theatre in Gwinnett County, is the ideal place to study the arts. What distinguishes Aurora Theatre Academy from other theatre programs is that students have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a professional theatre, and the instructors are working professionals with years of real-world theatrical experience. Aurora Theatre Director of Education, Jaclyn Hofmann, has put together an incredible team of teaching professionals, who you may have spotted on stage around Atlanta or on screen anywhere from Georgia Lottery commercials to HBO! In addition to receiving training to be a winner onstage, students build confidence, communication and life skills that will be a valuable part of their bright futures.

Mini & Master Classes

Classes for Elementary School Students Grades 1–5

These classes give students the opportunity to learn what it takes to put on a play. Students will be provided with valuable stage experience, while encouraging teamwork and collaboration with peers. The experience instills a sense of self-confidence in our students. They will be active participants in creating portions of the sets, costumes, and props for these exciting, whirlwind productions presented to family and friends.

Mini Class (Grades 1–3): Tuesdays, September 15–November 3, 4:30–6:00pm

Master Class (Grades 4–5): Tuesdays, September 15–November 3, 4:30–6:00pm

Tuition: $200 per Session*

Classes for Middle and High School Students Grades 6–12

Acting Edge Class
Teens, take the drama out of your life and put it where it belongs—on stage! Through a series of theatre games, exercises, and exploration, the class will become an ensemble of players rehearsing a collection of scenes to be performed for friends and family. Intermediate Acting Edge is for Students who are brand new to Aurora Academy, while the Advanced class is for returning Aurora Academy Students.

Acting Edge Middle School (Grades 6–8):
Mondays, September 14–November 2, 5:30–7:30pm

Acting Edge High School (Grades 9–12)†:
Mondays, September 14–November 2, 5:30–7:30pm
† Advanced 8th grade students may sign up for this class.

Aurora Theatre Academy Adult Acting Class PhotoAdult Acting Class

Classes for 18 and up

If you have ever wanted to act or maybe just feel more comfortable in front of an audience, it’s not too late for you to make the leap. In the Aurora Theatre Academy Adult Acting Class, learn the craft and technique of acting used by the professionals. Work on skills like cold readings, monologue delivery, auditioning with confidence and learn how to succeed in the business of show business.

Mondays, September 21–October 26, 7:30–9:30pm

Tuition: $200 per Session*


*There is a one time New Student Registration Fee of $25. A discount is available for students taking multiple sessions or for families with multiple students. Pre-booking guarantees your spot in one of our classes. Enrollment in each class is limited to 15 students.
All class payments are non-refundable.


Instructor Bios

Jaclyn Hofmann Jaclyn Hofmann (Director of Education) is thrilled to enter her fifth season as Director of Education at Aurora Theatre! She is also an Adjunct Professor at GGC, and directed their first student production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream here at Aurora. A few other directing credits include: The Explorer’s Club (Aurora), Homers (Georgia Ensemble Theatre), StinkyKids the Musical (Aurora and Synchronicity), Late: A Cowboy Song (Weird Sisters Theatre Project), and Letters to Sala (Stage Door Players & Company J). Jaclyn is a proud founding member of the Weird Sisters Theatre Project where she is excited to be producing some new works this summer! As an actor some favorite credits include: Comedy of Errors (Shakespeare Tavern), The 12 Dates of Christmas (Aurora), and Anton in Show Business (Weird Sisters).
jessica_demaria Jessica DeMaria (Master Class Instructor) couldn’t be happier to be teaching again at The Aurora. Regional credits: The Light in the Piazza (Theatrical Outfit), The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Stage Door Players), Murder Ballad (Actor’s Express), Damn Yankees (Atlanta Lyric Theatre)The Grimm Lives of the Inbetweens (Alliance Theatre), Mary Poppins, Les Miserables (2013/2015) (Aurora Theatre). Off-Broadway: The Last Time We Were Here (New York Musical Theatre Festival, written and performed with Jeremiah Parker Hobbs, The Laurie Beechman Theatre at the West Bank Cafe). Jessica has also appeared with Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Synchronicity Theatre and Pinch N’ Ouch. She is a graduate of Oglethorpe University.
Chelcy Cutwright Chelcy Cutwright (Mini Class Instructor) graduated from the American Musical Dramatic Academy. She then joined the acting apprentice program here at Aurora Theatre. As a teaching artist she has taught elementary children for after school and summer programs. Her Aurora Theatre credits include Mary Poppins, Clybourne Park (u/s), and The Three Little Pigs. She was last seen in A Night of Twisted Tales with The Weird Sisters Theatre Project. Chelcy is beyond thrilled to be to be an official teaching artist at Aurora!
Tiffany Porter Tiffany Porter (Acting Edge Middle School Class Instructor) is an Atlanta-based actor originally from North Carolina. She is a proud graduate of The East Carolina School of Theatre and Dance where she holds a BFA in Acting. PIRATES AAAAARRRRGH! Previous Atlanta credits include The Whale at Actor’s Express, Element Pea at Horizon Theatre, Romeo and Juliet at The Shakespeare Tavern and Criminal Hearts at Weird Sisters Theatre Project. She is a Co-founder and Producer with The Weird Sisters Theatre Project producing female-centric works each summer.
Tim Whitson Tim Whitson (Acting Edge High School Class Instructor) is excited to be part of the amazing teaching staff at Aurora. He is a proud Graduate of the 2014–2015 Apprentice Company at Aurora which has provided opportunities that have changed his life. He recently graduated from North Greenville University, where he performed often on stage and met the most beautiful woman in the world. Most recently he has worked as an assistant director to Tom Key on Memphis and to Jaclyn Hoffman on A Midsummer Nights Dream. Recent Atlanta acting credits include ensemble/Admiral Boom (understudy)/Park-keeper (understudy) in Aurora Theatre’s Mary Poppins, and Luigi in The Explorers Club here at Aurora. He is excited for the future and for the opportunity to craft his theatre career in the fast-growing Atlanta theatre scene. He would not be here without his wonderful family, his gorgeous wife, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Tiffany Mitchenor Tiffany Mitchenor (Adult Acting Class Instructor) works consistently as a theater actor and has recently been seen in several productions at Actors Express, Theater Emory, the Shakespeare Tavern and Georgia Shakespeare. This upcoming season she is very delighted to add Aurora Theater to that list as well, as she will be performing as Susie in WIT. Tiffany has an MFA in acting from UCLA and currently teaches Intro to Acting at Clayton State University. Her approach to acting and to teaching it is one of joy, community, exploration, dedication and love.
