Club Babalú: Parranda Navideña

Dec 16, 2023

Last Christmas Teatro Aurora’s Club Babalú brought the spirt the Puerto Rican tradition of Parranda to the concert stage. The result was holiday magic. Sometimes compared to carolers, the Parranda is more raucous and festive. Traditionally the trulla, or group of revelers, will sneak up to a house usually very late or in the middle of the night and surprise the unsuspecting family with holiday singing. The result is an impromptu late night Christmas party with lots of music and joy. This December, Frankie and the Atlanta Sala All-Stars won’t be sneaking to your house, but they are bringing authentic island holiday vibes to the LAC!

Rob is a brilliant observational comedian who finds the silly in those everyday things we tend to gloss over.

Jan 25, 2024-Feb 18, 2024

What can you do when life doesn’t go according to the recipe? It’s the middle of the night, a woman plagued by insomnia is determined that her mother’s bread recipe will finally work. On the eve of a significant birthday, the granddaughter of Cuban immigrants mixes the ingredients of her past – love, loss, and Cuban food – into a spectacular night that rises and falls with loaves that somehow end up in the oven. Aurora audiences will remember Mary Lynn Owen from her powerful performance in Wit, which earned her the Suzi Bass Award.
