What distinguishes Aurora Theatre Academy from other drama classes is that students have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a professional theatre, and their instructors are working professionals with years of real-world theatrical experience. In addition to receiving training to be a winner on stage, students build confidence, communication, and life skills that will be a valuable part of their bright futures.

Petite Players: Wild About Animals ($150)
3-5 Year Olds
Saturday, September 14- October 19, 10- 11am

In this 6 week class students will be introduced to a new book about some of our favorite animal friends each week. Using play, arts and crafts, and creative drama, students bring the world of the book to life.  This is a closed class (there’s no parent observation), however, parents will be invited to participate during our final class.

 

Let’s Explore: The Lion King ($200)
Musical Theatre Grades 1-5 
Monday, September 9- October 28, 4:30-6pm

In this 8-week Musical Theatre Class students in 1st-5th grades will have the opportunity to explore a selection of songs from their favorite musicals. This semester class will focus on 3 pieces from Disney’s The Lion King. Students will learn to tell a story through a song, and at the end of this session there will be a showcase for family and friends


Let’s Explore: Where the Wild Things Are ($200)
Acting Grades 1-3 
Tuesday, September 10- October 29, 4:30-6pm 

 In this 8-week class, students will dive into the world of the beloved classic Where The Wild Things Are. Utilizing introductory theatre skills (listening, responding, projection and characterization). Students will bring this timeless story to life. There will be a showcase of their work at the end of the session.


Let’s Explore: Greek Myths ($200)
Acting Grades 4-5 
Tuesday, September 10- October 29, 4:30-6pm 

Inspired by the Percy Jackson Series, in this 8 week course students will explore Greek myths. Students and teaching artists will work together to create an original piece that they will share with family and friends at the end of their session.


The On Your Feet!  Experience ($275)
Musical Theatre Grades 3-8 
Thursday  5-7pm, and Saturday 2-4pm, September 19- October 26

This conservatory style class meets twice a week and is geared toward students who are interested in becoming stronger actors, singers, and dancers. Inspired by Aurora Theatre’s upcoming production of the 2015-2017 Broadway hit On Your Feet! The Story Emilio & Gloria Estefan, this class will taught by actual cast members. Students will have meaningful interaction with the production’s music director and choreographer. Students will work on numbers from music made famous by Gloria Estefan, and from musicals like In The Heights, Be More Chill, and more. Students will be invited back for a special sneak preview of the Aurora production in March. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Broadway Blockbusters ($200)
Musical Theatre Grades 6- 12
Monday, September 9- October 28, 6-8pm

Students will work with a music director and choreographer to seamlessly combine healthy vocal production with dance combinations and storytelling.  All 3 skills will be challenged as they work on musical numbers from contemporary Broadway shows like Newsies, Be More Chill, Dear Evan Hansen and much more. Class culminates with a showcase performance for family and friends.


Scene Study: Mirror of Most Value: A Ms. Marvel Play ($200)
Acting Grades 6-8 
Monday, September 9- October 28, 5-7 pm 

In this acting class, students will focus on scenes and monologues from a script appropriate for Middle School aged actors. These scripts will vary between classics and contemporary pieces. This class is intended for the Middle school student who is looking to learn more about the art of acting

This semester we will focus on the Marvel Spotlight Play: Mirror Of Most Value: A Ms. Marvel Play by Masi Asare. In this play comic book and theatre collide, as actors dive head first into the Marvel Universe. 

5th grade students who are interested in a more rigorous curriculum are welcome to audition to be considered for this course.

Acting Grades 9-12
Wednesday, September 11 – October 16 , 5:30-7:30pm

In this acting class, students will focus on scenes and monologues from a script appropriate for high school aged actors. These scripts will vary between classics and contemporary pieces. This class is intended for the high school student who is looking to really hone their craft.

This semester we will focus on the play Puffs by Matt Cox. This play is inspired by the world of Harry Potter and it will be a magical time for all. 

Middle school students who are interested in a more rigorous curriculum are welcome to audition to be considered for this course.

 

 

Scene Study: Native Gardens ($200)
Adult Acting
Saturday September 21 – October 26,  5-7pm

Adults enrolled in this 6 week course will be introduced to the fundamentals of acting. In this scene study class, students will have the opportunity to engage with material from plays Aurora has produced both past and present. At the end of this course, those enrolled will walk away with a greater understanding of the art of acting.
