2013–14 Apprentice Company

appco14_logoAurora Theatre Apprentice Company—Post-Graduate Training Program for Aspiring Professionals

Aurora Theatre is excited to introduce our 2013–14 Apprentice Company! Beginning in August, these talented young theatre artists will join Aurora Theatre’s staff for a ten-month intensive that will prepare them for a career in the arts. The program will include acting, teaching, technical and administrative duties and they will get valuable performance experience in shows like Les Misérables or Terror on the Trail, which will make them a valuable commodity in this competitive world.

While here, they will hone their craft with classes in Auditioning, Theatre Education, Improvisation, Voice, Dance, Storytelling, New Play Workshops and more. The company of ten are coming from various theatre programs, from as far away as Elon University, to as near as UGA, Mercer College, Brenau University and Young Harris College. Join us in welcoming this talented group!

Meet Our 2013–14 Apprentices

katie_chambersKatie Chambers is thrilled to join Aurora Theatre’s Apprentice Company as their first stage management apprentice. Katie is a 2011 graduate of the University of Georgia. Some recent stage management credits include Madeline’s Christmas (Horizon Theatre), Dead Man’s Party (Six Flag’s Fright Fest), Spring Awakening (Company J) and Fiddler on the Roof (Company J). Katie is also an event stage manager for Atlanta Event Group.
catie_councellCatie Councell recently graduated from Brenau University/Gainesville Theatre Alliance with a BFA in Acting. Some of her past roles include Rona Lisa Perretti in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Gwendolyn Fairfax in The Importance of Being Earnest, and Ilona Ritter in She Loves Me. Catie also toured this past year as one of six in the GTA Repertory Company. She played multiple characters in Monsters Under the Bed (TYA play by Gay H. Hammond), and in an adaptation of Macbeth for many different schools, gyms, hospices, hospitals, libraries, and theatres of North Georgia. Catie is thrilled and thankful for this new adventure as an Apprentice at Aurora Theatre, and is so excited to learn and grow! She sends her love to her supportive, darling family and friends.
benjamin_davisBenjamin Davis recently graduated Cum Laude from The University of Georgia with a BA in Theatre and a BS in Psychology. As a Gwinnett native, he is thrilled to return home and join the 2013–14 Aurora Apprentice Company, as well as the cast of Les Misérables! His most recent roles include Billy Flynn in Chicago, directed by Tony Award winner Chet Walker and Brick Russell in the world premiere of Must Go On, both at UGA. He has also toured with the Broadway Dreams Foundation under the direction of Annette Tanner, Matt Lenz, and Stafford Arima. Film & TV credits include The Fat Boy Chronicles, Fun World & The Change-Up.
shelli_delgadoShelli Delgado is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia with a dual degree in both Theatre and English. Past credits include Roxie Hart in Chicago under the direction of Tony Award winner, Chet Walker. Other roles include: Sue Bayliss in All My Sons, Ophelia in Hamlet and Woman Poet in Under Construction. Recently, Shelli traveled to Italy with UGA to perform in an international production of Much Ado About Nothing. Les Misérables marks her first production as an Aurora Apprentice, and she is so grateful for this incredible opportunity.
edward_mccrearyEdward McCreary is ecstatic to be a part of Aurora’s Apprentice Company. He recently graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in Theatre and Economics. In the summer of 2012, he was lucky enough to fly straight from a study abroad program in Cortona, Italy to participate in the American Conservatory Theater’s Summer Training Congress in San Francisco. Some of his favorite roles include Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps (UGA), Satan in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (UGA), El Gallo in The Fantasticks (UGA), and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing (UGA). Edward would not have made it this far without his family’s support and is glad to be stepping into the professional world with some of his classmates from UGA.
evan_mcleanEvan McLean is thrilled to be joining the Apprentice Company at Aurora Theatre for the 2013–14 season. Evan is from Woodstock, GA and is a recent graduate of Young Harris College with a degree in Musical Theatre. Some past credits include: The Producers (Max), Waiting For Godot (Estragon) and A Year With Frog and Toad (Toad). Evan would like to thank God, his family and friends and Aurora Theatre for this wonderful opportunity.
akia_semblyAkia Sembly recently finished studying theatre at Florida A&M University. Some recent shows include: Oklahoma! and Sweet Charity (Quincy Music Theatre), Wrestling With Angels (FAMU), Aida (Theatre A La Carte), and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Tallahassee Little Theatre). She is thrilled to be a current member of the 2013–14 Aurora Theatre Apprentice Company.
suzanne_stroupSuzanne Stroup is a recent graduate of Mercer University with degrees in Theatre and Journalism. Suzanne has had the opportunity to intern with both the Walt Disney Company and the Macon Telegraph in the past years. Some of her memorable credits include Nina in The Seagull, Portia in The Merchant of Venice and Petra in A Little Night Music at Mercer. She was also the president of The Mercer Players. Suzanne is excited to be a part of the Aurora Apprentice Company and can’t wait to spend a year learning with great actors.
dane_troyDane Troy is an emerging artist straight from the heart of Atlanta. He holds a BA in Theatre from the University of Georgia. His most recent credits are Joseph Asagai in Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, Augustus in Rita Dove’s The Darker Face of the Earth, and Macbeth in Macbeth, all at UGA. He is also an alumni & former leader of UGA’s award-winning improv comedy troupe, Improv Athens. Dane is honored to be apart of the Aurora Theatre family & eager for what lies ahead.
traci_weisbergTraci Weisberg is a proud graduate of Elon University! Since college she has appeared in such theatrical productions as West Side Story (Maria), Rent (Mimi Marquez), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Rona Lisa Peretti), the centennial anniversary production of Titanic: The Musical at Fabrefaction (Mme. Aubart), the world premiere of By Wheel and by Wing (Sally Parnes), The Fantasticks at the MJCCA (Louisa) and most recently appeared in her very first TYA show, Seussical the Musical (Mayzie LaBird). She is a former employee of the Walt Disney Company in Orlando and is excited to be starting her very own princess party company, Ever After Entertainment. She is ecstatically anticipating all the great adventures just around the river bend as an apprentice at Aurora Theatre and is greatly honored to be kicking off the season in Les Misérables! Duly grateful!
